Hunza Valley is one of the most incredible and stunning places to visit not only in Pakistan, but anywhere in the world. Hunza Valley is known as the earthly paradise, and is the inspiration behind Shagri La in James Hilton’s book ‘Lost Horizon’. Duikar Top in Hunza Valley offers some incredible panoramic view of five +7,000m peaks – Rakaposhi (7,788m), Ultar (7,388m), Diran Peak (7,266m) and Spantik (7,027m). Perhaps this is the only such place in the world! Hunza Valley is also very rich in culture. It is home to 600 year old forts of Altit and Baltit. A legend exists, common to many parts of the western Himalaya, that the Hunzakuts (as the people of Hunza are known), are the descendants of the five lost soldiers of the army of Alexander the Great.

We will visit Pakistan-China border at Khunjerab Pass (4,693m), which is the world’s highest paved international border crossing and also the highest point on Karakoram Highway. Other attractions include the shimmering Attabad Lake, Hussaini Suspension Bridge, Passu Cones (6,106m), the hanging Passu Glacier and the mighty Batura Glacier.

Hunza Valley is truly an earthly heaven. Describing it as nature at its very best would not be wrong. Travelling to Hunza Valley will fascinate you to your very core.

However, this tour still has much more to offer. Skardu Valley and the surrounding valleys of Khaplu and Shigar are some of the most stunning and picturesque places to visit in Pakistan, and will certainly not disappoint you. The topography of this area is so diverse and immense that you will be truly mesmerized like never before!

Skardu is a vast valley enveloped by jagged peaks, and comprising of cold desert, green meadows and lakes. We will further visit the magical valleys of Khaplu and Shigar, and the historical sites situated in these ancient towns (Khaplu Palace and Shigar Fort).

A tour to Skardu Valley is never complete without visiting the stunning Deosai Plains. At an average elevation of 4,114m, the lush green plateau of Deosai, with colorful wildflowers and rare butterflies, is the 2nd highest plateau in the world. We will camp overnight at the gorgeous Sheosar Lake, from where we can witness some spectacular views of Nanga Parbat (8,126m).

Skardu Valley has such an awe-inspiring diverse topography. From the stunning Katpana Cold Desert to the shimmering Upper Kachura Lake and Lower Kachura Lake, we will witness the nature at its very best.  You will be truly enchanted by the magical Skardu Valley and Hunza Valley, and it will surely be an experience of the lifetime!

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive at Islamabad

  • Arrival at Islamabad.
  • You will be received by the group leader and/or guide.
  • Transfer to centrally located hotel.
  • Tour briefing with group leader at the hotel.
  • Sightseeing of Islamabad in the evening.
  • Enjoy an outstanding dinner at Monal Restaurant, which is situated in Margalla Hills and offers spectacular views of the city.

Day 2 – Drive to Chilas (Pakistani Tourists will join on this Day)

  • Leave early in the morning on private air-conditioned coach (or van) for Chilas via Karakoram Highway or Naran Valley (depending on the situation of Babusar Pass).
  • The Karakoram Highway follows the Indus River, cutting through steep gorges and offering some spectacular scenery all the way to Chilas. On the other hand, the Naran Valley route follows Kunhar River, passing through lush green valleys and offering some marvelous mountain scenery. The crossing of Babusar Pass (4,173m) is an experience in itself, offering some out-of-the-world views.
  • Chilas is a dry and barren palce, situated at the bank of Indus River. You will witness some outstanding panoramic views of Indus River from Chilas.
  • Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 3 – Drive to Karimabad, Hunza Valley

  • Leave early in the morning for Karimabad, Hunza Valley via Karakoram Highway.
  • Witness some of the most majestic mountain sceneries anywhere in the world along the Karakoram Highway, which is rightly known as the 8th wonder of the world.
  • We will enjoy some breathtaking views of Nanga Parbat (8,126m) and Rakaposhi (7,788m).
  • We will also see the confluence point of three mighty mountain ranges (i.e. Karakoram, Himalaya and Hindu Kush).
  • Visit the local bazaar (market) of Karimabad in the evening and enjoy the hospitality of locals.
  • Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 4 – Drive to Khunejrab Pass and then Drive back to Passu

  • Leave early in the morning for Khunjerab Pass (4,693m) via Karakoram Highway
  • We will pass the magical emerald blue colored Attabad Lake on the way to Khunjerab Pass. Attabad Lake was formed in 2010 due to a massive landslide 10km upstream of Karimabad over the Hunza River. (We will stopover at Attabad Lake the next day).
  • We will see the magnificent Passu Cones, or locally known as Tupopdan (6,106m).
  • We will be mesmerized by the sights of hanging Passu Glacier and the mighty Batura Glacier (which is 57km in length, and one of the longest glaciers outside polar-regions).
  • We will pass the beautiful towns on Gulmit and Sost, where the locals will greet us with big smiles.
  • We will enjoy the afternoon at Pakistan-China border at Khunjerab Pass (4,693m), which is the world’s highest paved international border crossing and also the highest point on Karakoram Highway.
  • We will travel back to the hotel in Passu, from where we will have outstanding views of Passu Glacier and Passu Cones.
  • Overnight stay at hotel in Passu.

Day 5 – Drive to Karimabad, Hunza Valley

  • We will leave early in the morning for Karimabad, Hunza Valley.
  • We will stop at the shimmering Attabad Lake for jet-skiing and/or boating for an unforgettable experience of such an excursion in the midst of jagged peaks.
  • We will then visit the Hussaini Suspension Bridge, which is a wonder in itself. It is one of the longest walking suspension bridges in the world, crossing the Hunza River delta.
  • Visit the local bazaar (market) of Karimabad in the evening and enjoy the hospitality of locals.
  • Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 6 – Sightseeing Day in Hunza Valley

  • Hunza Valley is outstandingly beautiful and there is plenty to see. A legend exists, common to many parts of the western Himalaya, that the Hunzakuts (as the people of Hunza are known), are the descendants of the five lost soldiers of the army of Alexander the Great.
  • We will visit the 600 year old forts of Baltit and Altit. Baltit fort is a marvelous piece of architecture with 53 rooms on 3 storeys. Altit for 100 years older, and is even more impressive.
  • The markets of Karimabad are always worth a look round and don’t forget to try the amazing local apricots.
  • From Hunza Valley, there are some spectacular views of Lady Finger (6,000m). In the evening, we will head to Duikar Top (known as Heaven on Earth) from where we will have panoramic view of the entire Hunza valley and five +7,000m peaks – Rakaposhi (7,788m), Ultar (7,388m), Diran Peak (7,266m) and Spantik (7,027m).
  • Time permitting, we will also visit the marvelous Hopper Glacier, which is amongst one of the fastest moving glaciers in the region.

Day 7 – Drive to Skardu

  • Leave early in the morning for Skardu via Karakoram Highway and Skardu Road.
  • Witness some of the most majestic mountain sceneries anywhere in the world along the Karakoram Highway, which is rightly known as the 8th wonder of the world.
  • We will enjoy some breathtaking views of Rakaposhi (7,788m).
  • We will also see the confluence point of three mighty mountain ranges (i.e. Karakoram, Himalaya and Hindu Kush).
  • At a place called Jaglot, we will get on Skardu Road. This road follows Indus River all the way to Skardu, We will witness some really spectacular mountain scenery all the way to the massive Skardu Valley.
  • Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 8 – Drive to Khaplu Valley

  • We will leave early in the morning for Khaplu, the second largest kingdom of the old Baltistan guarding the trade route to Ladakh along the Shyok River.
  • We will see the confluence of Indus River and Shyok River just before Khaplu.
  • We will visit the serene and beautiful Manthoka Waterfalls
  • We will visit Khaplu Palace, which was built in 1840 and embodies Balti, Tibetan and Kashmiri styles. The palace has also received UNESCO cultural award in 2013. We will witness some really exotic scenes from Khaplu Palace.
  • We will also visit Chaqchun mosque, one of the oldest mosques in Pakistan. The mosque is considered to be more than 700 years old and is very unique in its appearance.
  • Khaplu Valley is really famous for its apricots and cherries. The locals will greet us with a big smile and show their hospitality by inviting us to taste fresh apricots and cherries from their farms.

Day 9 – Drive to Shigar and then Drive to Skardu

  • Leaving early in the morning, we will make our way towards the stunning Shigar Valley.
  • We will visit Shigar Fort, which was built in the 17th The fort is preserved to the highest standards and takes you back in the history. The views from the fort are pure sublime!
  • Shigar Valley is really famous for its apricots and cherries. The locals will greet us with a big smile and show their hospitality by inviting us to taste fresh apricots and cherries from their farms.
  • Then we will visit Katpana Cold Desert to witness the stunning sunset in the sand dunes surrounded by snow-covered peaks, which will be an unforgettable experience. Then we will have a bonfire with local songs and dances, followed by a barbeque dinner in the desert.

Day 10 – Jeep Drive to Deosai

  • We will have a 4×4 jeep safari to Deosai Plains, the Land of Giants. On the way, we will visit the shimmering Sadpara Lake, enveloped in jagged peaks.
  • With an average elevation of 4,114m (13,497 ft) above sea level, Deosai is the 2nd highest plateau in the world after Changtang Tibetan Plateau. Deosai, with its lush green grass, colorful wildflowers and rare butterflies, is rightly described as the “Summer’s Palace” by the locals.
  • We will camp at the gorgeous Sheosar Lake, from where we can witness some spectacular views of Nanga Parbat (8,126m). At night, the skies are often clear, giving some exceptional views of the Milky Way galaxy above Sheosar Lake. This will be once-in-a-lifetime experience!
  • Time permitting, we will do fishing in the waters of Deosai Plains.
  • Overnight stay at fully serviced wilderness campsite.

Day 11 – Jeep Drive to Skardu

  • We will leave for Skardu in the morning on our 4×4 jeeps. On the way, we will enjoy the lush green plateau of Deosai, covered with colorful wildflowers – a scene you can never get enough of!
  • We will visit Kharpocho Fort, the King of Forts, in the afternoon. The view from the fort is breathtaking, with Skardu city and Indus River framed by the formidable Karakoram Range.
  • Then we will visit the breathtaking Shagri La resort and the Lower Kachura Lake. The lush green grass surrounded by apple trees provides an exquisite view.
  • Then we will head towards Upper Kachura Lake, a miracle of nature and one of the most mesmerizing places in Skardu Valley. The banks of the lake provide an enthralling image of the colorful flowers and peach, apricot and apple trees.
  • Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 12– Drive to Chilas

  • Leave early in the morning for Chilas via Skardu Road and Karakoram Highway.
